Takis
Takis is a new composition by Maria Pelekanou, exploring thematic about memory, identity, sound spaces. Written specifically for Ensemble New Babylon, the piece blends electronic contemporary textures with live elements, creating an immersive sonic experience.
A work for oboe – live electronics and recorded instruments on 6 loudspeakers. Takis is a little boy with a good heart, pure and sensitive. He loses his father at a very young age, which costs him dearly, as the two were very close. Since then, he has lived and worked for others, neglecting his own desires and needs. Others take advantage of him, and eventually he is betrayed by his family. Takis’ life is a lie. The work is allegorical. Each person in Takis’ life who betrays him corresponds to a recorded instrument (flute, clarinet, bass clarinet, English horn, vibraphone).
His only reality is himself (oboe) and his destiny (live electronic music).
Dedicated to my father Dimitris.
