ANIMATED VIDEOS
This work is a collaboration of two courses Cosmic Sounds with Professor Kilian Schwoon, which is about sound production of soundtrack for animation, and Trick and Sound of Stars with Professor Heike Kati, which is about making an animation film. Leaf not Fall (Ozone Kazuki Video Maker) is a short animated film of one minute and twenty seconds in which a leaf stubbornly refuses to fall from its tree and dreams of becoming a star. The music and sound effects follow the story perfectly, framing or supporting the protagonist. Evora Ren’s video is a two minute video that originally had the tidal effect and was therefore called Palirroia. Tidal is the term used to describe the temporal change of rising and falling of the sea level in relation to the Earth. It is produced by the gravitational pull of the moon and the sun. The music for the two videos was created with recorded material, mainly Leaf not Fall, which was very demanding, while other sounds were digitally synthesized in the program Sonic Pi.
PALIRROIA
A theme that revolves around women, the symbol of femininity and motherhood, the moon and the colour red, which is inextricably linked to female nature.
The film is abstract, without telling a specific story, the only narrative is the journey of the red tide with the energy of constantly changing situations.
The music attempts to follow this energy and its various movements. In an attempt to be less descriptive, some movements are not represented by a sound event.
represented by a sound event. When the images were sharp, large or blurred, filters were used to emphasise these changes, but it was generally agreed to follow a minimalist line on both sides (image and sound) so that the sound line on both sides (image and sound) so that the sound remained on two to three levels.
The algorithms for the melody were programmed in the Sonic Pi programme. These melodies were played, recorded by the computer and saved as an audio file that was used in Ableton.
LEAF NOT FALL
This film is initially divided into two main sections and these in turn into subsections.
subsections. For me, some subsections did not play a particular role in the editing of the sound, especially in the first part, but it was a point of reference so that
we could communicate better with Kazoukis. The first part is the day until 0:37 and the second part is the night from 0:38 to the end. As with this contrast of
day and night, I tried to emphasise the contrast between real and imaginary. This means that I started with some natural sounds at the beginning of the film and later modified them with some effects and used them in the second part.
The change was also intentionally intense in order to create a sense of the imaginary, the robotic, the space. The first part is divided into two smaller ones and the second into six more like.
Older photographs from my personal archive were used for this work. New recordings were made with a zoom for the voices of the leaves and the protagonist and the breathing sounds of: Female voice, Male voice, Human breath sounds and laughter. For sounds such as feathers, prefabricated samples from my personal file were used for sounds such as feathers.
